Crawling

So my handsome boy has always wanted to be up off the floor. He likes to see everything and all that. So it was no surprise to the rest of us that he decided to walk before he even tried to crawl. So now that he's proficient in taking a few steps on his own and a great furniture cruiser he has decided to tackle crawling once and for all. For the past month or so he has been trying and trying and trying to crawl but he hasn't been able to get it. In the past week he was finally able to figure it out but he would scream the entire time. You'd think he was in pain! No one believed us when we told them that he cries while crawling. We tried to get it on video but I don't think we succeeded. Too bad too because it was adorably painful! Yesterday he suddenly got everything moving together and was able to crawl across the house following us wherever we went. It's adorable to watch him explore and learn and grow. I cannot believe he is going to be 6 months old already! Life sure does go by faster when you get older!

First Steps

Yuri Jr took his first solo steps yesterday! He's a walk-a-holic already and spends most of his day pleading to walk around. Unfortunately that does require that mom (and dad) hold his hands and kill their back from all the bending over. Well after spending the morning with Babcha walking around her house he decided he wanted to try a solo stint from mom to the couch. It took him all of 3 steps to get to the couch which was good because he probably would have fallen if he tried any more. Daddy had just gone to sleep so he missed the first ones. Yurchik also showed off for his "aunts" Katie and Heather when he walked from Heather's coffee table to couch and back. It was like teasing a dog because they kept offering him potato wedges but he had to walk to get them. Such silly aunties. I'm excited to see him walk 4, 5 and many more steps. The world is officially at his fingertips!

Teething

WOW! What an adventure. Unfortunately Jr didn't take after his dad in this area. We have known every moment of the hurting gums and cutting teeth. He's been fussing and drooling forever and honestly I started to think his teeth would never come in! Finally they decided to cut through... while we were on vacation. It made for a fun time of no sleep plus lots of driving! He sure is a trooper though. He has decided that since he has teeth he doesn't need to eat baby food anymore. So we have been cutting food to small bites and he's been doing the finger food game. He LOVES it. Some of his favorites are bread and pickles. He enjoys the fun Gerber treats that are especially made for babies and mommy loves that they are whole grain and fruit or veggie flavored to get that little extra nutrition that he's missing out on when he foregoes the baby food. All in all we cannot complain, his two teeth are adorable and he did wait until mommy was off of work for the summer and didn't need sleep. Now if he can just cut them all before the summer's over so we won't have sleepless nights for the upcoming school year...

6 months of joy!

I cannot believe that my little baby boy is already 6 months old. It seems like yesterday that I was waddling around anticipating his arrival. Other babies don't seem to be growing as fast either!! He has lots of little friends, but his favorite is baby Jayne who is just 2 months old. He loves to grab her hand or foot or even pull her hair! He's in love with her and they are sure to be the best of friends as they grow up together. His other favorite friend is our dog Panzer... he loves to watch Panzer and pet him (or pull his hair too!!). They get along great; Panzer is very protective of his baby. Yuri is also busy sitting up alone playing with toys, drooling and chatting away all day long. He's not crawling yet and prefers to stand so maybe he will skip right to walking! No teeth yet but he sure seems to want to make that happen. He recently moved to his own room and the crib from being in the room with mom and dad. That was harder on mom than him (spent 3 nights in a sleeping bag on the floor waking up constantly to check on him... still checking the monitor throughout the night to make sure he's okay!). He has his own inflatable pool he's been splashing in. We are trying to prepare him for parent and me swim classes in July!

We are also getting ready to have mommy home ALL summer long and doing lots of fun things together. We are planning a trip to AZ to visit some family he has yet to meet. There's two weddings this summer in Vegas and we have yet to figure out the bills and see if we can go to either of them (already missing 1 family wedding in Jamaica!). It would be nice to get away for a few days and see family. We plan to spend as much time as we can with friends and family this summer. Yuri Sr is going to take a temporary position at Best Buy and work the overnight shift so it will just be me and the little guy but we will have fun and take lots of pictures so daddy doesn't miss anything!

I hope that all of you have enjoyed the past 6 months as much as we have. Here's to a wonderful summer!

Update

So I've been crazy busy since going back to work and have been neglecting everything! So I thought I'd quickly write what Yurchik is up to these days for everyone...

He can now: sit by himself for small amounts of time not propped up! He sits with us on the couch all the time; reclining like he's a big boy!

He eats rice cereal 2x a day.. in a few weeks we are supposed to start adding veggies!!!

He loves his Jump N Go still and has added a Jeep walker into his repertoire of toys. He loves driving on the patio (even if he's only mastered reverse!!) and he sits in the living room in it watching tv like he's at the drive-in! It's priceless.

He has moved on from the cute cooing of an infant to the babbling of an almost toddler (although he hasn't crawled or anything yet).

He does great for the babysitter- they enjoy each other's company and have fun together.

We've put up many videos on youtube of him as he experiences new things.

I hope you all are having a wonderful Spring and had a blessed Easter. I'm hoping to be better at posting in the upcoming months as he starts to do even more amazing things! We love you all!!

Jump N Go

This weekend we assemblied the Jump N Go; one of those jumpers that you hang from the doorway. It says to use when the child can hold their head up on their own. Well, Mr Jr has always been good at holding up his head but we've really noticed in the past week or so how well he's been doing. We decided to try it out. He LOVES it!!! He can look ALL around, he's moving... it's everything he loves. It's adorable as well that he is soo tiny in it. Usually we look at him and he looks SOO big compared to what he is in or near. The JNG makes him look like a tiny baby again- I absolutely love it! We did take a video of him and it is on youtube (along with his other videos). It is so much funny watching him grow and change every day. All we need now is an exer saucer and he would be one happy camper!

Dog Beach

Today we went to the dog beach. How many people can say that they went to the beach on a Thursday in January without jackets!?!? It was a GORGEOUS day; the sun was out and there was a light breeze. Panzer did a great job of staying close to us while off his leash and he interacted with the other dogs just fine. Yurchik slept or hung out in his stroller the whole time but I still managed to take a few pictures of him with the water in the background just so we can look back some day and say... hey this is when you went to the beach for the first time. It was nice to go out as a whole family and spend some quality time together. Plus Yuri, Panzer and I got a TON of excercise! We came home and took naps as a family...it was a perfect day!

Dedication

Yurchik is 8 weeks old today! I cannot believe that time has flown by so quickly. He is growing up so fast! I just cannot believe it!!

Today we dedicated Yurchik at church. Our friends and family filled an entire side of our small sanctuary (there were at least 30 people just for him there today!). He was peaceful throughout church and didn't cry on stage with those bright lights shining at him. It was wonderful to have our church family there as well to share in the blessing of his life. Knowing there are sooo many people who support us and are willing to be there with us as we raise him is truly a remarkable thing. We are blessed beyond compare.

After the dedication was a wonderful time. We went to brunch at BJs (about 25 people) and had a wonderful time socializing. I am so grateful to have a wonderful family and blessed that Yuri does as well. Above and beyond that we are truly blessed to have two families that get along together. Our family really does turn into one and we couldn't be happier about that. It was a lovely morning and afternoon. The day ended with some rain which I guess is just His way of rejoicing with us this day!

Story Time

Being a Kindergarten teacher and an avid reader makes exposing Yurchik to books a high priority. Yuri and I always said that we would be sure to spend time as a family reading; and we have as husband and wife. Now that we have a little one my reading has taken a step back as I've been doing midnight feedings and all that. Yuri has read a million books since Jr's birth whereas I have been trying to read the same book since the end of October! We got a few books at the baby showers and for Christmas presents so we have added to the few books I don't have in the classroom to our home library. I've read a few stories to Yurchik in the past 7 weeks but he was either sleeping or eating or something else. Tonight he was on my lap staring at the vibrant illustrations while I read, "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie". It was so adorable to see his eyes widen when I turned the pages; amazing how he can track the movement of the page already! I finished the story and starting talking to him about how this book is one of mommy's favorites and it was a gift for him and he can read it as many times as he wants. I look down and he's peacefully asleep! It was one of the most precious mommy moments so far. Since he's asleep and I am still quite awake perhaps I will take the opportunity and read a few pages!

Sleep

So Yurchik decided that he was going to try and let his parents have a complete night of rest! The first in at least 6 weeks. (I still count a few weeks before that when I couldn't sleep during pregnancy.) He slept from 11pm-7am! He's always been a good sleeper and has only gotten up once or twice a night from the moment we came home from the hospital. We've been gradually more and more excited about his constant gain of time throughout the past few weeks but a complete 8 hours was just heaven! We are now taking bets on how many hours he will sleep tonight (promise to comment with a number!). I love all the milestones that he is experiencing. Time is just going by so quickly and he is growing up so fast! Parenthood is a fantastic experience!

Happy New Year

As 2010 begins we thought it would be a fun idea to start a blog for our friends and family to be able to keep in the know about Yuri Jr. We hope you enjoy reading about him as he grows and changes.

So last night, 12-31-09, Yurchik decided to fall asleep around 9:00pm. Of course mom and dad weren't tired at all so we didn't go to sleep until around 11. Just as we get comfy in bed he decided he needed a midnite snack. Luckily he ate quickly and we were still sound asleep before the clock struck twelve. It wasn't until about 5am that he woke up for breakfast and we wished each other a happy new year. The lives of new parents... no more staying up all hours of the night partying!!

Today we plan to take it easy. Daddy made belgian waffles and we watched the parade and the winter classic (hockey outside!!). Later we plan to visit some family that didn't make it out for Christmas. We hope that all our friends and family have a blessed day and a wonderful 2010!
